THE ARTIST BEHIND - IRIS Y
Iris is a classically trained calligraphy and illumination artist whose practice is grounded in the disciplined traditions of historical manuscript craftsmanship. Her training follows the lineage of the UK royal scribes and US master penmen tradition, shaped by close study with distinguished calligraphers and fellows recognised for their excellence in classical lettering, gilding, and heritage arts.
Based in Hong Kong, Iris is regarded the city’s pioneer in illuminated manuscript art. The first Hong Kong artist to exhibit her illuminated manusciprt works at the Grand Palais, Paris since 2025. Her work integrates calligraphy, gold‑leaf illumination, crafts and decorative arts, bringing centuries‑old techniques into a contemporary creative language.
Through ongoing advanced study and a holistic, all‑rounded approach to calligraphy and illumination, Iris builds a body of work that bridges past and present, honouring the precision of classical craft while expanding its expressive possibilities.
THE STORY BEHIND - CRAFTIRISY
Craftirisy means Crafted by Iris Y. She discovered calligraphy while studying in London, UK since 2007 and found in it both a creative spark and a sense of purpose. What started as a personal exploration of lettering and craft grew into a studio dedicated to excellence, authenticity, and refined artistry. Over more than a decade, Iris has proudly built a trusted professional practice that bridges heritage craftsmanship with modern design needs since 2015, from luxury branding activations to bespoke wedding stationery and private event lettering.
She is continuously commissioned by leading local and global luxury houses (e.g. Audemars Piguet, Anteprima, Burberry, Cartier, Cindy Chao The Art Jewel, Dior, Fred, Gucci, Hermes, LV, Moncler, Tiffany & Co., etc.) and treasure the long-term relationship.
